Music Department News – October

The music department launched the 2015 performance season with a visit to the Big E on Thursday, September 24th, also known as “Massachusetts Day”.  The a cappella ensemble “Blue Light Special” performed for the crowd on the Storrowtown Green to start things off.  Later in the day the marching band participated in the daily parade around the fairgrounds.  The music department will now move on to the next calendar event, the Douglas Octoberfest, to be held on October 4th on Main Street.  The Douglas High School Chorus and “Blue Light Special” will be featured on the main stage (in front of the library) beginning at 11:00 and the Douglas Marching Band will perform on Main Street beginning at 3:30.  support to keep the music department running this year, will continue their fundraising efforts with a baked potato booth at the Octoberfest.  Please stop by the booth and help support our music program.

A view from the College Fair
DHS held another successful College Fair last week with well over 50 colleges and universities participating along with a number of trade and technical schools also being available to our students.  Branches of the military also sent representatives to meet with our students.  We thank the entire guidance department for their efforts in support of our students.  Special thanks go out to Mrs. Carpenter for her dedication to this annual event. Here are some images from the day.

Ocean State Invitational Cross Country

The DHS Cross Country teams performed very well at the recent Ocean State Invitational in held in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Many of the runners established new personal bests on the challenging course.  Coach Doyon and Coach Harrington were pleased with the team's overall performance as they head into the remainder of the league season and the tournament season.  Caroline Meizen, Patrick Peloquin and Trevor Mungeam all had top 25 finishes in fields of 180 runners in the girls meet and better than 225 participants in the boys meet.  Great job everyone. Here are some photos from the event.
