DHS Chorus news:

I would like to share with you some information about a very exciting event that is just around the corner in which our very own Douglas High School Chorus and DHS  A Cappella Ensemble (Blue Light Special) will be performing at Worcester’s renowned Mechanic’s Hall.  The groups will be special guests of the Worcester Men of Song as they present their annual winter concert.
Mechanic’s Hall is widely thought to be one of the best venues in which to see and hear a performance in North America – some would even say, the world, and our students will have an opportunity to share the music they’ve prepared from its stage.  The concert will also feature performances by the Worcester Men of Song Chorus and the North East District Senior Barbershop Quartet Champions Trade Secret.
Tickets for the concert are available through various outlets but are being offered at a discount rate through the high school music department.

Formal Invitation from Mr. DeNoncour

The C. W. Holmes Chapter
of the National Honor Society will be holding its annual Induction Ceremony on October 19th at 7:00 in the High School Auditorium.
We invite parents, students, faculty and staff to join us as we recognize this year's new members as well as our 9 existing members of Douglas High School's National Honor Society.  This annual ceremony is always a poignant and inspiring evening and we are excited to welcome in the new members.

Ally Week
Douglas High School's GSA organization will be sponsoring Ally Week during the week of October 13-16.

The Gay-Straight Alliance at DHS seeks to educate faculty, staff and students on LGBT issues and with this information it is hoped that it will lead to a supportive school climate where all students feel safe and supported. Through the sharing of information it is hoped that we can assure that no student is made to feel marginalized while attending DHS.
Ally week is a national student-organized week of action focused on providing a forum that will enlist the support of faculty, staff and students who will commit to supporting members of any marginalized group with which they do not identify.

There will be a short assembly held on Tuesday the 13th to provide information on the goal of Ally week as well as offering faculty, staff and students the opportunity to sign a banner that pledges their support for a school community that does not condone students being bullied, harassed or marginalized in any way.

Caps & Gowns
On Thursday the 15th, representatives from Balfour will be here to formally measure the members of the class of 2016 for their caps and gowns.  This is the first of many events that will bring us quicker than most can imagine to June 3rd at 5:30 for our Graduation Ceremony.  Parents and students should be talking about how they would like the students name to appear on the diploma.  We will be finalizing that list in the very near future as well. We will be holding our first graduation meeting next week to begin the planning for Graduation 2016. And so it begins, the sprint to this important date.

Planning is under way by the junior class for a new take on an old tradition.  More information on this event will be coming to the Principal's Blog in upcoming editions.  Stay tuned.
