Principals Blog for the week of June 16th - June 20th

As we fast approach June 26th, the DHS community wants to express its gratitude and appreciation to Superintendent Lane for all that she has done for the district and for the students of the Douglas Public School's.  Your work on behalf of the District and its students is very much appreciated.  Much has been accomplished under your leadership and the DHS community wants to say Thank You. You have much to be proud of! We hope you have a wonderful retirement, filled with good health and time spent with friends and family.  You've earned it.

Please visit the High School Webpage to view the June Newsletter.  It will provide additional details to events, activities, photos and calendar reminders.

2014 New Balance Nationals

On June 13th, members of the Track and Field Team attended the 2014 New Balance Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Daveed Goldenberg, Nicolas Grondin, Brandon Hoghaug and Dylan Menard performed admirably and certainly made Douglas proud on a very big stage, finishing 26th out of 42 teams, beating their personal best in the event by nearly 4 seconds.

The following link is a photo album of their event which includes several pictures:

Evening with the Arts

On June 12th Douglas High School held their annual Art Show. The main foyer was transformed into an art gallery with the works of our Art Students being displayed for viewing.  The display was put up during the week and our students were able to spend time wandering around the gallery during lunch.  We thank Mrs. Stand for her dedication to this event.  As in years past, this years show was terrific.  It is clear we have some very talented artist in our art classes.  The evening is also a concert with Chorus performing from the Grand Staircase.  The sound is wonderful and as always their performance was exceptional.  We thank the students for their participation and Mr. DeNoncour for his leadership of this outstanding program.  Mr. Elliot and his band students also performed adding another layer to this evening of the arts.  We want to thank Mr. Elliot and the band members for being part of this evening.  The members of the Drama Club also participated in the events and we thank Mrs. Murphy and the Drama Club for their creative participation.  An Evening with Arts, a tremendous success.  Much to be proud of!

Jared Marston with his engineering project, Appy Feet

On Saturday, June 14, 2014, two 8th graders represented DHS at the 65th annual Massachusetts State Middle School Science and Engineering Fair. Over 200 projects were entered into the fair, which was held at Worcester Technical High School.

The students who brought their projects to the fair were Taylor Catlin, whose project was Engineering an Affordable Prosthesis and Jared Marston with the project Appy Feet. We are pleased to announce that Jared Marston earned Honorable Mention for Appy Feet, which was an app Jared designed and programmed for people such as police, firemen and construction workers to use to accurately calculate distances using their shoe sizes.

Jared has also entered the national Broadcom MASTERS science, technology, engineering and math competition. Semifinalists will be announced in September. We wish Jared good luck!

We want to again thank Mrs. Graveson for her leadership of this program.  Her dedication to this event is exceptional and our students benefit from her attention to making the Fair such a great event.

Sports Information Night took place on June 12th.  Mr. Doyon presented a large crowd of parents and our Fall athletes with information on the policies that govern student participation. he also provided everyone with an introduction of a league video that will be developed this September.  From this meeting, the parents and students meet with their sports specific coaches and were provided with information on the program and the expectation for participation.

On June 10th, Morin's Studio of Milford was at the school to present information on Senior portraits.  Materials had been sent home in advance of this meeting. If you are using Morin's for your senior portraits, be sure to book early as they get filled up with appointments.

We're very much looking forward to celebrating the Douglas Early Childhood Center and their end of the year program which celebrates the Class of 2026.  It will be held here in the high school auditorium on Friday June 20th at 1:00 PM.
