I’d like to call everyone’s attention to a very special honor that will be bestowed upon one of our faculty members this weekend.

Salem State University will officially retire women’s basketball jersey #4. This jersey was worn by MaryDolores Brown-Sokol - Class of 1987. Mrs. Sokol was a four year starter on the women’s basketball team at Salem State. She was also the Co-Captain of the 1986 National Champion Team.

She was named an All-American in her senior year as well as being the first player at Salem State to receive the College Sports Information Directors Academic All-American Honors, which is seen as the most Prestigious honor at the Division III level.

Mrs. Sokol was also the first student Athlete at Salem State to be awarded the Howard C. Smith Award, recognizing her as the top female athlete at Salem to receive both these prestigious awards.

On behalf of everyone at DHS, let me say congratulations Mrs. Sokol on such a wonderful honor. We are so proud of you but more importantly we are so glad that you are here with us every day. You were a special athlete and you are without a doubt a truly special and wonderful person who means so much to our school, staff and our students.
