Update on DHS programs for 2015-2016

Due to the budgetary shortfall, all DHS extra-curricular programs will be supported exclusively by fund-raising dollars this year. All athletic, band/chorus/auxiliary programs and clubs/activities have been completely eliminated from the High School's operating budget. As such, in order for these programs to run next year they will need to be funded by fundraising activities.

We are very fortunate that there have been so many concerned parents and citizens who have stepped up to meet this significant financial challenge. It appears that the athletic and band booster's are approaching the needed dollar amounts for the start of the school year. This will allow DHS fall sports teams to compete at the inter-scholastic level within the Dual Valley Conference. It will also allow our band/chorus/auxiliary programs to continue to engage in their performance based activities at the school as well as at parades and competitions throughout the state.

On behalf of the administration, coaches, and students at DHS, we cannot express how appreciative we are for these kind and concerned efforts that are taking place on behalf of our students. Losing these programs would have had a significant impact upon our students ability to enjoy the complete high school experience. These programs are a source of great pride within our building and they are held in high regard within the
DVC as well as throughout the state's performance circles. We hope that they are a source of great pride for the community of Douglas as well. These programs are comprised of outstanding young people who cast a very positive reflection on the town in all that they participate in.

We can only hope that the elimination of these programs from our operating budget and the reality of us having lost these programs will serve to galvanize the community and ensure that we will not have to eliminate these programs again as we move forward with the 2016 budget process.  We hope that there will be genuine concern within the community for the negative impacts that we will experience if we are to lose these programs.  The student's need your continued support so we can continue to offer these opportunities to them as part of their whole school experience while attending DHS.

Mr. Doyon recognized by the Douglas Athletic Boosters and DHS's student-athletes:

Mr. Doyon has announced that he will not continue to serve in the capacity of Athletic Director at Douglas High School after nine years of service. He has served along with David Chupka, and then with Caroline Fitzpatrick as Co- AD and for the past two years he has worked alone as the school's AD. He has assured me that he will continue to be involved with Douglas High School Athletics but that he just cannot make the extensive time commitment that the job requires. He is without question, going to be missed. His dedication and commitment to the students and the sports programs has been complete and greatly appreciated. He simply is one the best AD's in all of the state. We look forward to his continued involvement with athletics at Douglas as a consultant, coach and fan.
Thanks for all that you have and continue to mean to Douglas Athletics Bobby. Our student-athletes have benefitted greatly for your leadership over the years.

Sorry, but a reminder to our students to keep up with your Summer Reading and AP assignments. The summer reading assignments can be found on the school's homepage.
