Updates:
The Midterm Exam process concluded today. With the close of exams we will begin the third quarter and Semester II on Monday.  Teachers will be submitting grades for Quarter II, Midterms, and Semester I by Tuesday the 27th.  Report cards will be posted into IPASS on Friday the 30th. Please also know that along with the report card, our teachers will be providing information on student performance on the school's 21st Century Learning Expectations.  The rubrics for each of these academic Learning Expectations will be provided to you as an additional document posted in IPASS along with the student's report card. Please take some time to also review this important assessment information when reviewing report cards.

With the start of the second semester, we begin the course selection process for the 2015-2016 school year.  We have opened the portal for teacher recommendations on each of their students.  They will complete this process on February 4th.  This will be followed by the Guidance Department engaging all of our students in grades 9-11 in the formal course selection process.  They will have access to their teacher's recommendations when making their course selections.  Parents will also have access to this information through the parent portal and we encourage you to review both these recommendations as well as the course selections of your student.  Upon completion of this review, parents will have the opportunity to complete their verification of these selections in IPASS.

Parents can access the Program of Studies on-line by going to the school's web page and clicking the guidance icon in the quick link section.  We are in the process of finalizing the 2015-2016 document with any changes within each academic department and when completed it will posted in this location.  The present Program of Studies is posted there at this time should you want to begin reviewing the content in advance.

Midterm Exams
Important Information:
Tuesday January 20th is the first of four consecutive days of Midterm Exams for our students.  The first exam is at 7:20 and completes at 9:00.  The second exam on Tuesday will begin at 9:10 and conclude at 10:50.  We will follow this schedule for all four days of exams and all four days are scheduled as early release days.

Tuesday - Periods A + B
Wednesday - Periods C + D
Thursday - Periods E + F
 Friday - Periods G + makeups

A point of clarification on the exam procedures:
In the letter that went home to parents and that is posted both here and on our website, there is an error.  The correction is that should we have inclement weather resulting in a 2 hour delay we will still conduct both scheduled exams and the students will end up being dismissed at 12:50 instead.  So the testing times for a 2 hour delay will be 9:20 - 11:00 and 11:10 - 12:50.

Please be sure that you have taken a few minutes to review the procedures and expectations for these exams that are detailed in the letter that went home. They can be found posted below in this blog or you can find it posted on the school's webpage.

DHS Cheerleaders
****************************************
The winter season brings the start of our cheerleading season as well. The program is under the leadership of Ms. Urch and Mrs. Socha.  They will perform at all home basketball games this season and then move on to the Cheering Tournament season.  They have continued to bring additional excitement to the basketball games and do a great job of entertaining and generating excitement with our fan base.

Youth Cheer Camp
The Cheer program hosted its youth cheer camp during the Holiday break and the campers performed at halftime during last Friday nights home game versus Oxford.  The kids did a great job and the crowd loved them.

DHS Pep Band
A highlight to the Winter Season is the performance of our Pep Band as they play at home basketball games. The group is under the direction of Mr. Rheaume and they contribute to the atmosphere of our hoop games. They are a crowd favorite and certainly add to the excitement of the evening. The pep band includes Nick Daly, Patrick Sullivan, Shannon Walthall, Ryan Smith and Sam Masoud and Abby Sullivan.

The cold weather didn't stop eight of last year’s seniors from coming for College Freshman Return Day!  We are so thankful for Randy Guertin, Brian Hasemann, Luke Daly, Nolan Karsok, Jess Picard, Jolane Thibault, Ryan Walker and Suzie Pignatello who were able to share their experiences with this year’s seniors and juniors about information from their first semester away from DHS and at college.  Topics ranged from the advantages of having taken AP courses to adjusting to living with roommates.  Hopefully, the information they shared will help our seniors and juniors with all their upcoming decisions and experiences.
