Junior Job Shadow Day

On Tuesday members of the Junior class will be participating in the annual Job Shadow day.  They will be spending the day at local businesses observing the day to day operations and skills of current jobs.  This provides our students with real world experience within the American workforce while also providing them with a practical understanding of the skills required of these positions.  We thank those local business who have agreed to provide these opportunities for our students.

Blackstone Valley Student-to-Job Connection Fair
Tuesday March 15, 2016 8;30 - 11:00
At Nipmuc Regional High School

Also on Tuesday a group of students will participating in the annual Blackstone Valley Student-to-Job Connection Fair. This annual event is sponsored by the Blackstone Valley Education Foundation and the MassDevelopment Corporation and through the support of Quinsigamond Community College. All students attending this Fair will participate in an interactive session conducted by Workforce Central/Milford focusing on the preliminary steps required to enter the job market.  It is geared towards students who will enter the workforce upon graduation and are interested in seeking full-time or part-time employment opportunities in manufacturing and STEM related careers. This event will provide those students who intend to enter the workforce upon graduation with the opportunity to speak directly with local employers.  The Fair provides the chance for our students to engage in a formal question and answer opportunities relative to the employment opportunities that are available within the Blackstone Valley.  It also provides the students with the chance to let these employers know who they are; their skill set and interests. Mr. John Gionet will be participating in this job fair.  We thank him for his willingness to participate but we know that it also provides him with the opportunity to speak with these employers to support his classroom instruction and planning so that is best tailored to the current job market.

Upcoming public meetings that will address the 2016-2017 Budget:

I hope that parents and students will plan on attending two upcoming public meetings scheduled for next week.  There will be some time spent in discussion of budgetary matters that will directly impact the necessary planning for the 2016-2017 School Budget.  As presented at a recent School Committee workshop; the school's are faced with the very real possibility of significant staffing and program cuts and these topics will be discussed at both the Board of Selectmen's meeting on Tuesday at 7:00 PM in the Town Hall and at the School Committee meeting on Wednesday at 7:00 in room C208 of Douglas High School.  Please plan to attend.

DHS Girls Basketball Advances to the Central Massachusetts District Final!!! First time since 1982-1983.  Why I was even young back then.

Congratulations to the team on their Semi-Final game victory over Norfolk Agricultural on Tuesday night at WPI, 64-27.
Hannah Favaloro led the team with 23 points.  Peyton Young added 18 to pace the team.  The team is now 18 and 5 on the season. With this win they now advance to the District Final on Saturday versus Millis High School.  Millis is presently 15 and 8 on the season.  They are a member of the Tri-Valley League and will present a challenge for the team, but if one thing is evident from DHS's play, it is that they are driven by a competitive nature and that they will bring a competitive effort to every team they play.

The District Final game will be held at Fitchburg State University at 2:30  Admission will be $7.00 for students and $10.00 for adults.    Please come out and support the team.
