Peer Leaders Host Taco Tuesday
The Peer Leaders held a kick-off meeting on Tuesday, September 16th at 4:00 pm in Guidance to encourage new membership.  This meeting advertised as "Taco Tuesday" was a great opportunity for the existing Peer Leaders to explain what the group does throughout the year to new and interested students.  Over 20 students attended this meeting.  The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday September 30th at 4:00 pm in Guidance.

 *Upcoming Dates*
September 29th - Balfour Ring Night for Sophomore's and their parents.  Wide assortment of ring styles with varied price points are available.

October 3rd DHS will be hosting a College Fair with better than 50 colleges, universities, technical schools and the armed service branches.  It is held in the gym and is open to students in grades 10, 11 and 12 to meet with the representatives present at the fair.

October 8 - First quarter Progress reports will be posted in IPASS.

October 10 - Full Professional Development Day -  No School 

October 18 - the Junior class is sponsoring a Cancer Walk at the High School which will wind its way through a few neighborhoods in of town before finishing at the High School. We hope you'll consider participating in this event this year.  All proceeds will go to cancer research.  Students can count this as community service hours also.

The Douglas/Sutton Football team will be playing Worcester North at Foley Stadium on Saturday September 20th. They opened their season with a victory over Burncoat last weekend.

Ring Night will take place on September 29th from 5:00-7:00.

Homecoming Dance is September 20th in the school's cafeteria

Out of town guest must complete a form prior to attending the dance. Forms are available in the main office and must be received by Thursday at the close of school. Administration will check with the guests school to ensure that they are students in good standing before granting permission for them to attend. 

All school policies regarding dances are in effect for Homecoming including the policy that no students will be admitted one hour after the start of the dance or dismissed one hour before the end time for the dance. They will only be dismissed if parents pick them up at the school or administration speaks directly with a parent or guardian.

Anyone in need of community service hours see Courtney Cotnoir or Rachael Morin to volunteer at their senior project on October 9th at 5:00 in the Gym. You would be selling raffle tickets and baked goods at a volleyball game to benefit The American Cancer Society. Also if you want to donate baked goods, the donation would be greatly appreciated and will also count for community service hours! Sign-ups can also be found in the library.

Any Junior or Senior who would like to attend the Manufacturing Day Field Trip on October 3rd needs to have their signed permission slip back to Mr. Gionet by Tuesday September 23rd. The fair is sponsored by the Blackstone Valley Educational Collaborative.  If you have any questions please see Mr. Gionet.

The Gay/Straight Alliance is having their first meeting on Wednesday September 24th. New members are always welcome. Meetings are held from 2:15-2:45. Come check us out!!

The Blackstone Valley Youth Leadership Academy is beginning the process for enrollment. The leadership Academy is entering its 11th year and is a unique leadership program for 9th and 10th grade students in member High Schools in Blackstone Valley.  The goal is to enhance the leadership skills of “emerging leaders” and strengthen their connection to the Blackstone Valley. Please see Mr. Vega if you are interested in this program.
