Winter Carnival
Another successful Winter Carnival took place at DHS on the 12th of February. The school was electric and there was a tremendous amount of celebration and support evident throughout the entire event. The window decorations were terrific and the class posters were also exceptional. I'm not sure if people know how much planning goes into this event. A huge shout out of thanks goes out to the members of the Student Council, their EBoard members and to their advisers, Ms. Shaner and Ms. Lauretano. They all did a great job of planning and conducting this year's Winter Carnival.
I'd also like to recognize our class advisers for their work in supporting their class in this event.
So thank you very much:
Mrs. Fitzpatrick - Seniors
Mr. Riordan - Juniors
Mr. Leonard, Stand and Ginisi - Sophomores
Mr. LaChapelle and Ms. Braney - Freshmen
They gave a lot of their time to ensure that the class was prepared for the event. This meant coming in early or staying late. They all did a great job and I wanted to publicly thank them.
Lastly, I'd also like to recognize the faculty who served in quite a number of different capacities during the day. They helped keep the day moving and with structure. Thank you everyone.
The culminating piece of the day was the surprise teacher lip sync. They tell me there is video of it out there on the WWW somewhere.

Boys Basketball
Cheerleading
On Tuesday night we also recognized our sole Senior Cheerleader, Maggie Landry. She was recognized for her commitment to the team, her leadership as a Co-Captain and for the role model she was for the new members of the team Thank you Maggie.
Girls Basketball
The girls hoop team wrapped up their regular season schedule with a victory over Hopedale HS on Wednesday night. They finished the season with a record of 15 - 5. They qualified for the District Tournament and most likely have earned the right to host a home tournament game as a top 4 or 5 seed. Also on Wednesday night we recognized the two senior players, Rachel Sutton and Shannon Harney. Like our other seniors, Rachel and Shannon were recognized for the manner in which they participated. They were dedicated and committed to the program and we thank them for their time in the program. They provided solid leadership and both were outstanding teammates. We extend them and the team good luck in the upcoming tournament game.
They will be playing St. Mary's of Worcester on Wednesday night here at DHS. It is a 7:00 start and admissions is $3.00 for students and $5.00 for adults. We hope that everyone will come out and support the girls in this District Tournament game.
Lastly, I had the opportunity to engage in conversation with Peyton Young about the proper way for a basketball team to break the 2 -2 -1 zone press.
Mr. Vega happened to catch us in this highly focused conversation during the day's events of Winter Carnival. I had mentioned to Peyton that I had also worn the number 12 a few years ago when I was a high school athlete. I thought it was interesting that we had that in common.
However that is where the comparison of what we had in common ended.

Sports Update
Ice Hockey
The members of the Hopedale, Millis, Douglas, WC Ice Hockey team have concluded their season. Douglas had five players who participated this year; Andrew Pineo, Thomas Hehir, Thomas D'Amico, Justin Pineo, and Cam Howell.
As a result of their participation on the JV team; they captured the league title. Congratulations gentlemen. Participating in this coop team involves a significant commitment with regards to travel and ice time and your dedication certainly generated outstanding results.
I also want to recognize Mr. LaChapelle who volunteered to assist with coaching duties during the season. He's a hockey guy but being at the rink at 5:00 AM as a volunteer is certainly deserving of a shout out of appreciation. Thanks very much Mr. LaChapelle for being part of this program.
Great Job Men!
The boys hoop season drew to a close on Tuesday with a lose versus Uxbridge. The team ended its season with an 8-10 record. We recognized our six seniors on Tuesday night and thanked them for their dedication to the program and for the way they represented themselves, their school and their families while participating in basketball. They are a great group seniors and we are proud that wore the Douglas uniform.
They are Matt Blanc, Dean Cordani, Michael Hayes, Johnny Maguire, Josiah Smith and Michael Tourony.
