Preparing to say good-bye to Mrs. Bates

Nancy Bates has submitted her letter of resignation from her position as Assistant Principal at Douglas High School effective August 8, 2014. On behalf of all the faculty and staff, we thank Mrs. Bates for all that she has meant to our school community. She has been a real advocate for the students as well as always being supportive of their learning and social experiences. She was always available to meet with our students and she could often be seen at school events and activities, showing her support for the students  outside of the classroom.   She has also been supportive of our instructional staff by providing them with sincere and genuine concern while also providing them with valuable professional feedback. Our staff knew that Nancy would be available to them when requested and that she would lend a listening ear and valuable feedback. As a result, she established a very positive relationship with our staff that proved to be mutually beneficial.

As Principal, I will miss working with Mrs. Bates. During the past five-years we have established a very positive working relationship that has proven to be most rewarding. She has worked very hard at making DHS the best school that it could be and her dedication to this goal had such a positive impact upon me. It will be very difficult to not have her in the building especially because of her positive impact upon the culture of the building. She has provided me with a dedication to our shared goal of making DHS the best school it can be. She provided sound advice and valuable insights on a daily basis. She is a terrific lady, and I have benefitted greatly from having worked with her over the past five years. I thank her for all that she has done and meant to the school, to the staff and to the administrative team of DHS. We are losing a good administrator, a concerned and committed educator and a caring human being. She will be difficult to replace but everyone at DHS wishes her good luck at her next position. She will be missed. Should you wish to over your best wishes to Mrs. Bates she can be reached at the school or by email at nbates1@douglasps.net.

As a result of Mrs. Bates decision, DHS will be looking to appoint a new Assistant Principal before the start of the school year on September 3rd.  THe screening of applicants is taking place and formal interviews will take place as early as the 10th or 11th of August. I hope we will be able to find someone who possesses the same skill set, empathy and administrative abilities as Mrs. Bates.

The FAll sports season is just around the corner. As such, student-athletes and parents are reminded of the need to have all the necessary paperwork submitted before practices begin in late August. Up to date physicals are needed to actively participate in practices and scrimmages, as well as a signed permission form and up to date paperwork on concussion requirements for participation for students and parents. Blue Cards can be submitted in the main office of the High School. These cards must be complete in their information and signatures prior to participation.

Chromebooks:
We continue to meet and discuss the implementation of the Google Chromebook initiative at DHS. Literature on policies and distribution will be made available within the next few weeks. Delivery is expected within the next few weeks with the technology department then processing and preparing them for distribution. More information will follow on this matter in this site.

A few weeks ago a “Save the Date” was sent out for the 27th Annual Tiger Open Golf Tournament.  The Tiger Open will be held Saturday, September 27th at Blissful Meadows in Uxbridge.  Registration starts at 12:00PM, with a shot gun start at 1:00PM (four person scramble).

This is our senior project and we have been working very hard along with the Douglas Athletic Boosters to organize, fundraise, and find golfers for this tournament.  It is the most important fundraiser of the year that the Douglas Athletic Boosters run.

If you are interesting in golfing, send an email lijob@aol.com listing the name of the team captain along with the names of the other members of your foursome.  If you would like to play and don’t have a foursome, please let us know and we will help place you in a foursome.

Thank you for your consideration and support,

Matt Peladeau and Andrew Brown
