Opening Day!
The Spring sport season is finally underway; well sort of. The opening games for softball and baseball both were started but eventually rained out on Tuesday. They are both playing today with softball using the new facility located behind the new Elementary School building.
Good weather is finally in the forecast for next week and we hope that the season can really get underway. We extend good luck to our Varsity and Junior Varsity Baseball and Softball teams this spring.

Senior Citizens Breakfast
On Wednesday, April 8th Douglas High School
hosted the Senior Citizen’s Breakfast.
The Peer Leaders did an awesome job setting up, serving and cleaning up
for the event.
In advance, the Peer
Leaders made each senior a pen with spring flowers and provided a word search
for them to do or take with them. They were also greeters and made sure all the
seniors were comfortable, had plenty to eat and drink and were polite and
welcoming.
Members of the Jazz Band and
the a cappella choir entertained the seniors with some beautiful songs
accompanied by Mr. Elliot and Mr. DeNoncour.
A number of solo performances took place featuring Alex Briggs, Caroline Smith, Angela Pignatello, Olivia Ouellette, and Meredith Roberts. Excellent performances by the Jazz Band and Choral groups also entertained those in attendance.
Thanks go out to all the students who entertained our guests as well as the all student members of our Peer Leaders group who planned and managed the event. Thanks go out to Mr. DeNoncour and Mr. Elliot for their commitment to this event and to the band and chorus. Also much thanks go out to Mrs. Stack and Mrs. Carpenter for their events in supporting the Peer Leaders and for their efforts to make the Senior Citizens Breakfast such a nice event.

Student Government Day
Today, Seniors Emily Delphos and Nicholas Daly attended the Student Government Day at the Massachusetts State House. Also attending was Mr. Leonard of the DHS History Department. While participating, the students debated two topics in the public education arena. Both students found the event to be both exciting and interesting. They also had opportunity to work with other students on these topics. Nicholas made an impassioned argument on the topic of unfunded state education mandates and their impact upon local budgets. They also were able to meet with State Representative Joseph McKenna as well. We thank Mr. Leonard for his support of our students as well as Mr. Stand for his work to ensure DHS was represented at today's event.
Both Emily and Nick had opportunity to meet with Representative McKenna but Emily became a bit camera shy. Not surprisingly Nick was not shy of a quality photo opportunity.
We did however get a photo of Emily and Mr. Leonard on the way home aboard the train.

World Language Night

We thank Mrs. Cicero, Ms. Turner, Ms. Smith and Mr. Nauss for their support of this wonderful school event.
