School Behavioral Health Clinic
agreement with DHS

I wanted to share with you that DHS has recently entered into an agreement with the School Behavioral Health Clinic offered by Family Continuity out of Whitinsville. Beginning very soon, they will be offering our students with another layer of support through their counseling services.  These clinicians will be at the school two days a week and will have the ability to work with up to 6 students each day while they are in the building. They will be providing 1-to-1 services while working in collaboration with our faculty, guidance counselors and administration to support these students.  As part of this grant, the service may also provide the student and their family with psychiatric services either here at school or at their offices. We are pleased to be linked to Family Continuity and the School Behavioral Health Clinic and we hope that this relationship will prove to be beneficial for our students and their families.

Because these services are being provided through a grant, there is no cost to the school.
The expectation is that we will have one counselor in the building within the next few weeks and they will begin meeting with those students identified as being .  If you have questions, please stop in to see me or the guidance counselors and we will do our best to answer your concerns.  If we can’t adequately answer your concern we will inquire with the people at Family Continuity to get the answer.

Sober Celebrations
(Article from the April edition of Principal Leadership)

*More than 6,500 people under the age of 21 die annually from alcohol-related accidents, and thousands more are injured.

*Alcohol is the number one drug of choice for America's young people and is more likely to kill young people than all illegal drugs combined.

*Each day, 7,000 kids in the United States under the age of 16 take their first drink.

*Those who begin drinking before the age of 15 are four times more likely to develop alcoholism than those who begin at age 21.

*More than 1,700 college students in the United States are killed each year - about 465 a day - as a result of alcohol -related injuries.

*25% of US children are exposed to alcohol-use disorders in their family. www.ncadd.org/indexphp/programs-a-services/alcohol-awareness-month.

*As middle and high schools enter the last few months of the school year and prepare for school dances and proms, as well as promotion and graduation ceremonies, now is an important time to discuss the dangers of teenage drinking. The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) promotes Alcohol Awareness Month in April and offers information and rescourses, such as Ten Tips for Prevention (www.ncadd.org/index.php/for-youth/prevention-tips).
